With a private car and driver you’ll travel for two weeks through the wonderful landscape of Northern Ethiopia stopping at all the major points: Beginning with the colourful camel market in Bati leading to the ancient and famous rock-hewn churches of Lalibela. By boot you’ll explore the idyllic monastery islands of Lake Tana and continue on to the historic imperial cities of Gondar and Axum. A two-day trek in the strikingly beautiful Simien Mountains provides a welcome chance for fresh air and plenty of activity.

Day 1 (Sunday): Addis Ababa – Sanbete Market – Kombolcha

Day 2 (Monday): Kombolcha – Bati Camel Market – Lake Hayk with Istafanos Monastry – Woldia

Day 3 (Tuesday): Woldia – Lalibela: rock-hewn churches

Day 4 (Wednesday): Lalibela: cave monastry Yemrehanna Kristos, hiking tour to the Asheton Maryam monastry on Mount Abuna Yoseph

Day 5 (Thursday): Lalibela – Bahir Dar

Day 6 (Friday): Bahir Dar: Lake Tana monastries

Day 7 (Saturday): Bahir Dar: Blue Nile Falls – the imperial city of Gonder

Day 8 (Sunday): Gonder: Royal Enclosure, the Church of Debre Birhan Selassie and Fasilidas’ Pool – Debark in the Simien Mountains

Day 9 (Monday): Debark – Sankaber in the Simien Mountains National Park, hike to Gich Camp

Day 10 (Tuesday): Gich Camp, hike to Chennek Camp

Day 11 (Wednesday): pickup at Chennek Camp – Debark – Axum

Day 12 (Thursday): Axum: stelae fields, royal burial chambers, excavation site of Dongar Palace and the Cathedral of Tsion Maryam

Day 13 (Friday): Axum – Temple of Yeha – Debre Damo Monastery – Gheralta

Day 14 (Saturday): Gheralta – rock-hewn churches of the region – Mekele, flight to Addis Ababa

Difficulty of the Hike: With good health, fitness and stamina the tour should be relatively easy to manage. Because of the increase in altitude, however, some sections can be quite challenging.  .
