Travel Season: From November to March. Tours do not normally operate in other months due to the high temperatures.

Note: Due to the extreme conditions of the Danakil Depression it is necessary for travellers to be physically fit. This expedition takes you to very remote regions. This entails a waiver of certain comforts and requires flexibility and tolerance on the part of the tour participants. The nights are usually spent camping out in the open air or in tents, which we bring with us. Sanitary facilities are not available.

Also Note: There is currently a foreign security warning for travel to the Danakil Depression (see foreign travel information online). For your own safety, during parts of the trip you will be accompanied by soldiers or policemen as well as guides from the local villages. Nevertheless travel to the Danakil Depression is at your own risk. We therefore recommend checking the current travel information for this region from your regional Foreign Office (e.g. the UK government travel website).
